Fluence Analytics CSO Presenting ACOMP Results at ISPAC 2017 in Austria

Fluence Analytics CSO, Prof. Wayne Reed, and Strategic Advisor, Bernhard Bartylla, are representing the company at the 30th International Symposium on Polymer Analysis and Characterization (ISPAC). ISPAC 2017 takes place from June 11-14, 2017 at Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria.

Prof. Reed, who is also Chair of ISPAC for the Americas, is presenting results on the Automatic Control of Free Radical Polymerization Reactions on Wednesday, June 14 at 10:50 a.m. (CET) in Room 1. Prof. Reed’s presentation highlights automatically controlling various aspects of homo- and copolymerization based on continuous, model-free measurements of weight average molecular weight and concentrations of comonomers. For this experiment, a Control Interface was integrated into ACOMP, and a controller was developed to follow trajectories and produce multimodal polymer populations.

This approach does not depend on a detailed kinetic model and does not require knowledge of kinetic parameters such as propagation, termination and initiator decomposition rate constants. The robust controller also works when factors such as reaction temperature are fluctuating. The ACOMP/Control Interface system is demonstrated in an aqueous phase polymerization of acrylamide and styrene sulfonate. Prof. Reed’s full ISPAC abstract is available here.

Additionally, Mr. Bartylla is representing Fluence Analytics at an exhibition booth where he will have literature for anyone interested in optimizing polymerization processes through realtime data or stability, degradation and aggregation analysis of synthetic or biopolymers. Mr. Bartylla will have brochures and scientific articles for ACOMP and ARGEN and can answer questions about the products and provide additional information when requested. If you are interested in arranging a meeting with Mr. Bartylla, please email him at bernhard.bartylla@fluenceanalytics.com.

ISPAC is a nonprofit scientific organization whose mission is to provide an international forum to present cutting-edge technologies relating to polymer analysis and characterization. ISPAC 2018 will take place in June in Bethesda, MD, USA.
